Looking after it

Dry them before they go in the bag. Oxford fabric does not rot easily but a wet goal zipped up for a week will smell and will mark. Learn the fold from the instructions rather than wrestling them, because a forced frame is what develops a kink and stops popping square.

Garden Or ParkSet up wherever there is grass

Goals that pop up in a garden and zip into a bag.

420D Oxford fabric on a folding frame, no tools, no assembly, and a zipped carry bag so they end up in the park rather than in the shed.

Pop up football goals made from high density 420D Oxford fabric.

They fold flat and pop up again with no tools and no assembly at all.

A zipped storage bag is included, which is what makes them portable enough for a child to take out on their own.

Suitable for garden games, park matches and training drills.

Light enough to move mid game when the pitch turns out to be in the wrong place.

Pop Up Football Goal

The goal that gets used is the one that is already up.

Pop Up Football Goal

Anything that needs poles threading, corners pegging and a diagram takes fifteen minutes, which is longer than a lot of children will wait, and it is why so many garden goals get used twice.

Pop Up Football Goal

These pop up. Out of the bag, open, done, and back in the bag just as fast when it rains.

Pop Up Football Goal

The fabric is 420D Oxford, which is the useful part of the specification. It is a dense weave rather than a thin mesh, so it takes shots and drags across grass without going through.

Pop Up Football Goal

Being light is a feature rather than a compromise. A goal you can pick up and move two metres is a goal that ends up where the game actually is.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do they set up?

They pop up. Out of the bag, open them out, and they stand.

Do I need tools?

None.

How long does it take?

Moments. That is the entire reason to buy pop up goals.

What are they made of?

High density 420D Oxford fabric.

Is 420D Oxford any good?

It is a dense weave rather than a thin mesh, which is what takes repeated shots and being dragged over grass.

Do they come with a bag?

Yes, a zipped storage bag.

Can a child carry them?

That is the design intent. Bagged, they are light enough for a child to take to the park.

Do you get one goal or two?

Check the product photos and the option shown for current stock, because pop up goals are sold both ways.

What size are they?

See the dimensions on the product photos for the current stock size.

Are they full size?

No. These are small portable goals for gardens, parks and training, not match goals.

Will they blow away?

They are light, so on a windy day peg or weight them. That applies to every pop up goal ever made.

Can I peg them down?

On grass, yes, and it is worth doing.

Can I use them on a hard surface?

Yes, on tarmac or a court, and there you weight the base rather than peg it.

Can I use them indoors?

In a hall, yes, with the base weighted.

Will a hard shot go through the fabric?

The dense weave is there for that. Studs and sharp edges are what damage any fabric goal, not the ball.

Are they suitable for adults?

Yes, for training drills and small sided games. They are not a match goal for adult football.

Are they good for training?

Yes, particularly shooting and finishing drills where you want a target that can be moved around.

How do I fold them?

Follow the instructions the first time. Forcing a pop up frame is what kinks it, and a kinked frame never pops square again.

What if I cannot get them back in the bag?

It is always the fold, not the bag. Watch the instructions again and it takes seconds thereafter.

Can they stay out all summer?

They can, and they will last longer if they do not. UV and constant damp age any fabric.

What if they get wet?

Let them dry before zipping the bag. A damp goal in a sealed bag will smell.

How do I clean them?

Brush off dry mud, wipe with a damp cloth, dry them.

Will they fit in a car?

Yes, folded in the bag, easily.

Are they suitable for very young children?

Yes, and it is one of their main uses. Adults should do the folding.

Do they come with a ball?

No, goals only.

Can I use them for other sports?

People use small pop up goals for hockey and lacrosse practice as well.

How long do they last?

Years with sensible folding and drying. The frame is what fails on any pop up product, and it fails from being forced.

Can they be repaired?

A torn net panel can sometimes be stitched. A kinked frame usually cannot be put right.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days across the UK. This is over £75, so delivery is free.

Can I return them?

Yes, unused and in a saleable state. It is a stock item, so the full 14 day right to change your mind applies alongside your faulty goods rights.

Getting a garden pitch that actually gets used

4 min read The Outdoor Sports Company

Setup time decides everything

The single biggest predictor of whether football equipment gets used is how long it takes to get out.

Under a minute and it happens after school, in the twenty minutes before dinner, on a whim. Over ten minutes and it happens on a planned Saturday, twice a summer.

Pop up goals sit firmly in the first category, and that is the whole argument for them over a rigid frame goal.

Placing them so the game works

Point the goals away from the house. Obvious, routinely forgotten, and the reason for most broken windows.

Use the length of the garden, not the width. More running, fewer arguments about out of play.

Leave a run behind each goal. Balls go past goals. Somewhere for them to stop that is not a flowerbed is worth planning.

Move them when the grass wears. Two worn patches in front of two goals is inevitable; moving the goals a metre every few weeks spreads it.

Wind, which is the only real enemy

A light goal in a breeze travels. Peg it on grass, weight it on a hard surface, and on a genuinely windy day accept that a pop up goal is not the right tool.

Weighting does not need to be clever. A bag on each base corner does it.

Drills that need one goal, not two

Not every session is a match.

Shooting from a set position. Ten from the left, ten from the right, count them.

Two touch finishing. One touch to set, one to shoot. It is the drill that most improves a young player's finishing.

Goal as a target for passing. Put it on its side and hit it from twenty metres.

Making them last

Dry before bagging. Every time.

Learn the fold once, properly. From the instructions, not from wrestling it. Every dead pop up product died this way.

Keep studs off the fabric on the ground. The ball will not damage 420D. A boot will.
