Looking after it

Air them after every session rather than zipping them into a kit bag wet, because sweat trapped against PU is what makes pads smell and what lifts the surface at the seams. Wipe the outside with a damp cloth, never soak them, and let them dry away from a radiator.

Shock Absorbing CoreBuilt around the holder's hands and wrists
Reinforced StitchingDoubled where the seams take the load
AmbidextrousEither pad on either hand
Contoured FaceCurved to meet the punch squarely

Contoured focus pads that protect the holder, not just the puncher.

PU leather over shock absorbing padding, with reinforced stitching where the seams actually take the load. Ambidextrous, so a pair suits whoever is holding.

A pair of contoured focus pads in matte black PU leather, sized for adults.

The inner padding is chosen to absorb shock, which matters most for the person holding them.

Stitching is doubled and reinforced at the points that take the strain, which is where cheap pads fail first.

Ambidextrous, so it does not matter which pad goes on which hand.

Used for focus work, combination drills, timing and clinch practice, and they take kicks as well as punches.

Boxing Focus Pads

Pads are bought for the puncher and judged by the holder.

Boxing Focus Pads

Boxing Focus Pads

These are built around that. A shock absorbing inner layer under a PU leather face, with the stitching doubled at the points that get pulled when a punch lands off centre.

Boxing Focus Pads

The face is contoured rather than flat, which does two things. It gives the puncher a clear target and it lets the holder present the pad square without twisting a wrist to do it.

Boxing Focus Pads

They are ambidextrous, so there is no left and right to sort out, and at 360g a pair they live in a kit bag without being noticed.

They take kicks as well as punches, so they work for boxing, Thai and MMA pad rounds equally.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do they come as a pair?

Yes, a pair.

What are they made of?

PU leather outer with a shock absorbing inner padding.

Are they left and right specific?

No, they are ambidextrous. Either pad goes on either hand.

What size are they?

Adult sized. Packed they are 32.4 x 23.1 x 19cm and weigh 360g.

Are they for boxing or Thai boxing?

Both. They handle punches and kicks, so they cover boxing, Thai and MMA pad rounds.

Will my hands hurt holding them?

That is what the shock absorbing layer is for. Technique matters too: meet the punch, do not wait for it.

Do they protect the wrists?

The padding takes the shock. Holding correctly, elbows in and pads square, is what protects the wrists.

Can a beginner hold pads?

Yes, with light contact to start. Holding is a skill and pushing back into a heavy punch is how holders get hurt.

Are they good for heavyweight punchers?

The construction is built for heavy contact, with reinforced stitching where the load goes. For sustained heavy power work, a heavy bag is the better tool.

Where do pads usually fail?

At the seams and at the strap anchor. That is exactly where the stitching is doubled here.

Do they have a strap or a glove fit?

They wrap securely around the hand. Check the product photos for the current retention design.

Can I use them with boxing gloves?

Yes, and the puncher should be wearing gloves. Pads are not a substitute for gloves.

Can I use them with MMA gloves?

Yes, and we sell a set.

Are they suitable for children?

They are adult sized. A child can punch them while an adult holds, which is the usual arrangement anyway.

Can I use them for kicks?

Yes. For heavy low kicks a dedicated Thai pad is thicker, but these take kick work.

Do they smell after a while?

Any pad will if it lives in a closed bag wet. Air them after every session and they will not.

How do I clean them?

Damp cloth on the outside, then dry. Never soak them and never put them in a machine.

Will the PU peel?

PU lifts when it is stored damp or dried on a radiator. Treated normally it lasts.

What colour are they?

Matte black.

Do I need two people to use them?

Yes, that is the point of pads. One holds, one hits.

What is the advantage over a bag?

A pad moves and responds. It teaches timing, distance and reaction, which a static bag cannot.

Can I do solo work with them?

Not really. Pads are a partner tool. For solo work use the punching bag.

How long do they last?

With normal club use and proper drying, years. Storing them wet is what kills pads early.

Are they heavy to hold for a full round?

At 360g for the pair they are light. Fatigue in pad holding comes from the arms, not the weight.

Do they come with a bag?

Check the photos for what is in current stock. They are compact enough for any kit bag.

Are they good for fitness classes?

Yes, pad rounds are a staple of boxing fitness sessions.

Can I use them outdoors?

Yes. Bring them in afterwards rather than leaving them in a damp car boot.

Do they come in other sizes?

This is the adult contoured pad. We do not currently stock a junior version.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days across the UK. Under £75 there is a £25 delivery charge, so these are often added to a larger order.

Can I return them?

Yes, unused and in a saleable state. It is a stock item, so the full 14 day right to change your mind applies alongside your faulty goods rights.

Holding pads well, which is most of the value

4 min read The Outdoor Sports Company

The holder is the coach

Anyone can stand and let someone hit two cushions. What makes pad work worth doing is that the holder controls the whole session: the pace, the distance, the combinations and the corrections.

That means the equipment has to protect the holder first, which is why the padding and the stitching are the specs that matter more than the face design.

The four rules that stop injuries

Meet the punch. Push the pad slightly towards the incoming shot. A pad held passively takes the whole impact into your joints.

Elbows in, not out. An arm held wide is a lever that ends at your shoulder.

Present the pad square. A pad at an angle sends the force sideways across your wrist. The contour is there to let you square up without twisting.

Call before you hold. Every combination announced before it lands. Surprises are how holders get hit.

Building a round that teaches something

Start every round with singles: jab, jab, jab. It sets distance for both people.

Add one shot at a time. One-two, then one-two-hook, then the same with a slip in it. Combinations built up in front of someone are learned faster than combinations shouted from a list.

Move between combinations. A holder who steps back, steps in and circles makes the puncher move their feet, which is the thing nobody practises voluntarily.

Finish with something easy. Ending a round on a combination that lands cleanly is worth more for the next session than ending it on a mess.

Making pads last

Air them out of the bag. Immediately, every time. This is the single thing that decides how long a pair lasts.

Wipe the face. Damp cloth, no soaking. Water inside a pad never fully leaves.

Dry away from heat. A radiator dries PU faster than it should, and dried PU cracks at the fold.

Watch the seams. Fraying stitching at a strap anchor is the early warning. Caught early it can be restitched, ignored it becomes a torn pad in the middle of a round.
