Looking after it

Pull them off by the cuff rather than the fingers, open them out and air them after every session. Gloves that go straight into a closed bag are the ones that smell within a fortnight. Wipe the outside with a damp cloth, never soak them and never dry them on a radiator, which shrinks and cracks faux leather.

Matte Faux LeatherWipes clean, holds its shape

Open palm MMA gloves with a moulded EVA and gel core.

Multi layer injection moulded EVA with additional gel, wrapped in matte faux leather, in four sizes so the fit is right rather than nearly right.

Open palm MMA gloves for training and sparring, in matte finish faux leather.

The knuckle padding is a multi layer injection moulded EVA core with additional gel, which is what spreads impact rather than just cushioning it.

Open fingers and palm, so grips, clinch work and grappling all stay possible.

Four sizes, cut for men and women.

Each size is a separate line here, so the order says which size is being sent.

MMA Gloves, Small

MMA gloves have to do two contradictory jobs. They need padding over the knuckles and they need your hand free enough to grip, so every design is a compromise between the two.

MMA Gloves, Small

[object Object]

MMA Gloves, Small

Moulded padding matters more than thickness. A moulded core holds its shape through hundreds of impacts, where a stuffed pad packs down in the middle and stops protecting exactly the spot you keep hitting.

MMA Gloves, Small

The outer is a matte faux leather, which wipes clean and does not go shiny and slick with use.

MMA Gloves, Small

Sizing is not cosmetic on a glove like this. Too big and the padding slides off the knuckles on contact, which is worse than no padding. Too small and the wrist strap will not close properly. Four sizes exist to avoid both.

MMA Gloves, Small

These are training gloves. Competition rules on glove weight and specification are set by whoever is running the event.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes do they come in?

Four: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.

How do I choose a size?

Measure around your palm at the knuckles, excluding the thumb, and compare with the size guide on this page. If you are between sizes and you wrap, size up.

Are they for men or women?

Both. The four sizes cover the usual range for either.

Does each size cost the same?

No. Small is £33, Medium and Large are £39, and Extra Large is £44.

What is the padding made of?

A high density multi layer injection moulded EVA foam core with additional gel.

Why moulded rather than stuffed padding?

Moulded padding holds its shape. Stuffed padding packs down in the middle, which is exactly where you keep landing.

Are they open palm?

Yes. Palm and fingers are open so you can grip.

Can I grapple in them?

That is what the open palm is for. Grips, clinch and ground work all stay possible.

Can I use them on a heavy bag?

Yes, with wraps underneath. MMA gloves are thinner than boxing gloves, so the wraps do more of the work.

Do I need hand wraps?

For bag and pad work, yes. For light technical drilling, many people do not bother.

Can I spar in them?

They are sparring gloves for MMA. What is appropriate for a given session is your coach's call.

Can I box in them?

For boxing sparring, no. Boxing needs a boxing glove with far more padding.

Are they competition legal?

Competition glove rules are set by the event and usually specify weight and construction. Treat these as training gloves.

What weight are they?

They are sold by size rather than ounce weight, which is normal for open palm MMA gloves.

How do they fasten?

A wrist strap. Fasten it firmly with the wrist straight, not bent.

Will they stretch?

Faux leather gives a little as it beds in. It does not stretch a size.

What if they are too big?

Send them back and change size. A loose glove lets the padding slide off the knuckles on impact, which defeats the point.

What colour are they?

Matte black.

Are they real leather?

No, faux leather with a matte finish.

Will the faux leather peel?

Not with normal care. Storing them damp and drying them on a radiator are what makes any synthetic outer peel.

How do I stop them smelling?

Open them out and air them after every session instead of zipping them into a bag. That is the whole trick.

Can I wash them?

Wipe the outside with a damp cloth. Do not soak them and do not machine wash them.

How long do they last?

With regular training and proper airing, a long time. The stitching at the thumb is usually what goes first on any MMA glove.

Are they suitable for beginners?

Yes, and a beginner should start on pads and bag work with wraps underneath.

Are they suitable for children?

The sizes are adult. A child needs junior gloves and supervision.

Can I use them for kickboxing?

For light drilling, yes. Kickboxing sparring generally calls for a boxing style glove.

Do they come as a pair?

Yes, a pair.

Do you sell wraps?

Not currently. Any standard hand wrap works underneath.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days across the UK. Under £75 the delivery charge is £25.

Can I return them?

Yes, unused and in a saleable state. It is a stock item, so the full 14 day right to change your mind applies alongside your faulty goods rights.

Sizing MMA gloves, and why it matters more than padding

4 min read The Outdoor Sports Company

Fit first, padding second

A well padded glove in the wrong size protects less than a thin glove in the right one.

Too big, and the moulded core shifts off the knuckles on impact. You land on the edge of the padding or past it entirely, which is how people bruise knuckles wearing gloves.

Too small, and the wrist strap cannot close properly, so the wrist is unsupported at exactly the moment it needs support.

Measuring properly

Wrap a tape around your palm at the widest point, across the knuckles, with the thumb excluded. That number is what glove sizing is based on.

If you wrap, measure over the wrap. Hand wraps add real bulk, and a glove sized to a bare hand will not close over them.

Between sizes? Go up if you wrap for every session, down if you mostly drill bare handed.

Check the strap closes with room. A strap at the very end of its travel on day one will be uncomfortable by week three.

What open palm means for your training

The open palm is the entire reason MMA gloves exist as a category.

You can grip. Clinch, collar ties, underhooks, ground work: none of it works in a closed boxing glove.

You get less padding. That is the trade. These are not boxing gloves and should not be used as them for heavy sparring.

Your fingers are exposed. Which is why finger injuries happen in MMA and not in boxing. Technique and control matter more here than equipment.

Wraps

For bag and pad work, wrap. The padding here covers the knuckles, not the small bones and joints in the hand, and the bag does not care how good you are.

For technical drilling and grappling rounds, most people do not, and that is normal.

The thing that decides how long they last

Air them.

Every glove that has ever smelled did so because it was packed away sealed and wet. Open them, spread the palm, leave them out. Wipe the outside occasionally. That is the whole maintenance routine, and it is the difference between a season and several years.
