Looking after it

Keep the rackets in the bag between games, because a racket rattling loose in a car boot is the one that gets a cracked frame. Do not leave them in a hot car or a cold shed for long periods, since temperature swings are hard on any composite frame. Keep nylon shuttles out of direct sun, which makes the skirt brittle.

Two RacketsA game in the box, not half of one
Graphite ShaftLight enough for long rallies
Built In T JointOne piece, so the head does not work loose
Three Nylon ShuttlesOutdoor friendly, not feather

Two rackets, three shuttles, one bag.

Graphite shaft with a carbon aluminium composite frame, in a one piece build with a moulded T joint, which is the part that decides how long a cheap racket lasts.

[object Object]

The shafts are graphite and the frames a carbon aluminium composite, which keeps them light without making them fragile.

A one piece design with a built in T joint, so the head and shaft cannot work loose over a season.

Nylon shuttles rather than feather, which is the right choice for a garden and for anyone still learning.

Aimed at beginners, families and casual play rather than club competition.

Badminton Set

Badminton sets fail in a predictable place, and it is not the strings.

Badminton Set

It is the T joint, where the head meets the shaft. On a glued two piece racket that joint loosens with use, and once it does the racket feels dead and no restring fixes it.

Badminton Set

These are built as one piece with the T joint moulded in, which is why a set at this price can survive a summer of daily garden use.

Graphite shaft and a carbon aluminium composite frame keep the weight down. Light rackets matter more for beginners than for good players, because a heavy racket turns a long rally into an arm workout.

The shuttles are nylon. Feather shuttles fly better and last about one enthusiastic game outdoors; nylon takes a mis-hit, a bit of grass and a breeze, which is what a garden set actually meets.

It is a set for playing with, not a set to grow into. Anyone who takes up badminton properly will want to choose their own racket, and that is the right way round.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is in the set?

Two rackets, three nylon shuttlecocks and a carry bag.

Does it come with a net?

No. The badminton net is a separate product on this site.

What are the rackets made of?

A graphite shaft with a carbon aluminium composite frame.

What is a T joint and why does it matter?

It is where the head meets the shaft. On glued two piece rackets it loosens with use and the racket goes dead. These are one piece with the joint built in.

Are they heavy?

No, they are light, which is what makes long rallies possible for beginners.

Are these good rackets?

They are good beginner and casual rackets. A club player will want to choose their own, and that is normal.

Are they suitable for children?

Yes, and the light weight is the reason.

Are they suitable for adults?

Yes, for garden and casual play.

Nylon or feather shuttles?

Nylon. Feather shuttles fly better and do not survive outdoor use, so nylon is the right choice for a garden set.

How long do nylon shuttles last?

Far longer than feather, and it depends how hard they get hit. Three is a sensible starting supply and replacements are cheap anywhere.

Can I buy replacement shuttles?

Any standard nylon shuttlecock fits. We do not currently stock them separately.

Can I play outdoors with these?

Yes, that is the intended use. Badminton in a breeze is badminton with a handicap, which is true of every set.

Can I play indoors?

Yes, in a hall with the height for it.

Do the rackets come strung?

Yes, ready to play.

Can they be restrung?

A racket at this price is usually replaced rather than restrung, since restringing can cost as much as the set.

What tension are they strung at?

Factory strung for casual play. If string tension is something you care about, you are past what a set like this is for.

Will the frame bend?

The composite frame resists deformation in normal play. Hitting the ground with a full swing is what bends any racket.

Do they come with grips?

They come with a standard grip fitted. Overgrips are cheap if you want a different feel.

Is the bag any good?

It is a carry bag that keeps the pair together and protects them in a boot, which is what matters.

Can I take it on holiday?

That is exactly what the bag is for. It packs flat in a case.

Are they suitable for a school?

For casual and introductory play, yes. A school running a badminton programme would buy more robust rackets in bulk.

Can I use these with your badminton net?

Yes, and that is the natural pairing. The net is 4.27m and adjusts to regulation height.

How many people can play?

Two rackets, so singles. For doubles you need a second set.

Do you sell professional rackets?

No. We stock this set for casual and family play, and we would rather say so than point you at something we do not sell.

How should I store them?

In the bag, indoors, out of extremes of heat and cold.

Will they survive a car boot in summer?

For a day, yes. Living in a hot boot all summer is hard on any composite frame.

What happens if a shuttle skirt splits?

It stops flying straight and it is time to use the next one. That is normal wear on any shuttle.

Are they left or right handed?

Neither, badminton rackets are symmetrical.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days across the UK. Under £75 there is a £25 delivery charge, so this is often bought alongside the net.

Can I return it?

Yes, unused and in a saleable state. It is a stock item, so the full 14 day right to change your mind applies alongside your faulty goods rights.

A badminton set that survives a summer

4 min read The Outdoor Sports Company

What breaks first, and it is not the strings

Ask anyone who has bought three cheap badminton sets and they will tell you the strings went.

Usually what actually happened is the T joint loosened. That is the collar where the head meets the shaft, and on glued two piece rackets it works loose over a few weeks of proper hitting. The racket starts feeling dead and vibrating, the strings then break because the frame is flexing wrongly, and everyone blames the strings.

A one piece build with the joint moulded in avoids the whole sequence, and it is the single specification worth checking on any set at this price.

Nylon shuttles, and why they are the right call outdoors

Feather shuttles fly beautifully. They also last about one enthusiastic garden game, because a feather skirt is destroyed by mis-hits, grass and damp.

Nylon shuttles fly slightly differently, particularly on a hard smash, and they keep going. In a garden, in a park, at the beach, that trade is not close.

Keep them out of direct sun when they are not in use. UV makes the skirt brittle, and a brittle skirt splits on the first hard hit.

Playing in a garden without a net

Most sets get used before the net arrives, so it is worth saying: badminton without a net is still badminton.

Mark a line with two shoes. Play a rally game, counting how many shots you can keep going rather than trying to win points. It is more fun with mixed abilities and it builds the skill that matters, which is consistency.

When you do add a net, 155cm is regulation and 120cm is the family setting.

Wind, honestly

A shuttle weighs about five grams. Any breeze wins.

Play across the wind rather than into it, drop the net height if you have one, and accept that a windy day is a day for the beach games rather than for a competitive match.

Keeping the set alive

Everything back in the bag. A racket loose in a boot gets cracked by whatever else is in there.

Out of hot cars and cold sheds. Composite frames dislike temperature swings.

Shuttles out of the sun. They fail from UV faster than from being hit.
