That needs a mat run, which is several mats laid together, and at that point you are building a home gymnastics space rather than buying a mat.\n\nMost families buy one, use it hard, and add a second when the child's skills outgrow the first.\n\nThe folding is the feature\n\nThis sounds like packaging and it is not.\n\nA mat that lives rolled behind a sofa gets used most days. A mat that lives in the garage gets used at weekends, then stops.\n\nThree panels, a handle on each, folded to a 60cm square that stands upright in a wardrobe: that is the difference between equipment and clutter.\n\nFloors\n\nWooden and laminate. The textured underside is what stops the mat travelling across the room during a session. Check it is sitting flat before starting.\n\nCarpet. Fine, and the mat still does the work. On thick carpet the whole thing feels softer, so balance work is slightly harder.\n\nConcrete or garage floors. The mat handles knees and elbows. It does not turn a concrete floor into a sprung one, so keep landings controlled.\n\nLooking after vinyl\n\nNothing complicated, and two things worth doing.\n\nWipe it after sweaty sessions. The cover does not absorb anything, so what is on it stays on it until it is wiped.\n\nNever store it under weight. Foam does not recover from months under a box.
